Douglas County has Fire Restrictions

So, so dry! Scary dry here in Douglas County. Now is not the time to decide to have an open fire pit, burn your debris or dead brush, or anything else in which sparks or embers could cause a fire. Even those of you who are burning in a fire pit, and think you’ve put it out, as the Four Mile fire shows, it only takes some wind and a few embers, or sparks to start a major fire. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department has put restrictions in place. If you would more details log on to http://www.dcsheriff.net.

ROBBED IN BANNOCKBURN!

A home on Frontier Lane, in Bannockburn, in Franktown, was robbed on Monday, July 11, between the hours of 11:30-4 p.m. The homeowner works from home, and it appeared they watched the house, watched him leave, and then stole small electronics including Ipods, Wii, cameras, AND credit cards, social security card, bank statements and check books. Right now, there are no leads and no one saw anything.

But, several suspicious vehicles have been spotted in the weeks leading up to the robbery.  1. White van/truck with no markings at all, no windows, and no license plate on the front. 2. maroon Ford Ranger 3. White Expedition 4. Black/dark van or pickup truck.  All of these vehicles have been noted as parking on the streets in front of homes, or driving slowly by.

If you have any information, no matter how small, call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, 303-660-7500 . If you see a crime in progress, call 911 immediately, then write down any and all items you noted. It was clues from various families around the Franktown area two years ago, that broke up a criminal group that had hit several Franktown neighborhoods.

I spoke to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department two years when we last had problems, and they said, often robberies happen on Monday & Tuesday due to drug money running out from the weekends. They like to pick up small items that they can easily sell.  If there is anything that makes it difficult for them, they’ll go on to the next house, like dogs, security system (although they know it takes DougCO a long time to respond, so it is not a huge deterrent) the homeowner home, etc.

But, we can all watch out for each other! Let’s make it hard for the bad guys!

Interest Rates Dropped-Below 5%

4.83% for a 30 year home mortgage, wow. We have all gotten complacent about seeing these historically low interest rates, but the average national 30 year home mortgage interest rate just dropped to 4.83%. This is truly amazing, and to put it in perspective, below is a table to show how interest rates impact you, your money and your monthly payment.

Loan Amount 4.83% 6.0% 8.0% 10.0%

$200,000                                 1,053               1,199               1,467               1,755

$400,000                                 2,105               2,398               2,935               3,510

$600,000                                 3,158               3,597               4,402               5,265

Right now, it seems impossible that interest rates could go up to 10% but historians often use between 10-12% as the norm for interest rates. For a $200,000 loan amount, your payments would increase by $700 per month. That is a hefty hit for the typical family.

That is why these are exciting times for real estate ownership

Rabies In Elbert County

I received a copy of this article from a concerned Bannockburn Resident. We must all pay attention:

5/13/2010 – Elbert County Health and Environment has received notification that a mule deer, acting quite aggressively within the city limits of the Town of Elizabeth, has tested positive for rabies.

When necropsied by the Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratory, it
was apparent that this animal had been fed by a local resident, as its
stomach contents revealed sliced apples, rolled corn and bird seed.

Elbert County Health & Environment reminds all Elbert County citizens that
our area is now considered endemic for the rabies virus in wild animals.
Positive test results for rabies positive animals have been found in ALL
portions of Elbert County.

Colorado Division of Wildlife regulations indicate that it is not legal to
feed wild animals. Please take steps to ensure that all pet and livestock
feed is secure and not accessible to wildlife. Additionally, please
contact your veterinarian to ensure that your pets and horses are vaccinated
against the rabies virus. If your pet interacts with a skunk, please take
them in for a booster vaccination asap.

If your pet or any human experiences ANY animal bite please contact your
medical or veterinary provider immediately. For questions or reports,
please keep these numbers available: Elbert Co. Health & Environment:
303-621-3145 or 303-621-3193, Elbert County Animal Control: 303-621-2030,
or Colorado DOW: 303-291-7227.
